The National Science Foundation 2026 Idea Machine, is a competition to help set the U.S. agenda for fundamental research in science and engineering. This challenge seeks to have members of the general public age 14 and older submit pressing "grand challenges" in fundamental research or STEM education that have potential for great impact.

The NSF 2026 Idea Machine is a competition that asks the public to submit bold, original concepts to keep the United States at the forefront of innovation.

NSF is looking for exciting ideas for future themes in fundamental science, engineering and education research, that go beyond the National Science Foundations’s existing portfolio.

The National Science Foundation will accept the NSF 2026 Idea Machine entries from approximately late August through late October 2018.
