Coming Soon: Capricorn Foundation Food Waste Challenge

The Capricorn Group and its subsidiary companies aspire to be Connectors of Positive Change by creating economic value in a responsible way that creates sustainable opportunities for advancing and improving the economic and social conditions in the communities where we operate. The Capricorn Foundation was established in February 2020 as a non-profit Association Incorporated under Section 21 of the Company’s Act in Namibia, as the Capricorn Group’s vehicle for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.  Our Group’s CSR Vision: To be an inspiring Connector of Positive Change by creating economic value in a responsible way that creates sustainable opportunities for advancing and improving the economic and social conditions in the communities in which we operate.

Aligned to this vision, the Capricorn Foundation decided to use Open Innovation to address the issue of Food Security in Namibia and is seeking ideas for reducing Food Waste in Namibia. According to Reliefweb, from July to September 2020, around 428,000 people in Namibia (17% of the population) were facing high levels of acute food insecurity (Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Phase 3) or worse, including around 14,000 people in Emergency (IPC Phase 4).  Solutions to this problem would not only provide a basic need to vulnerable people in Namibia, and especially growing children, but it can have a positive impact on our society and improve the quality of life of many Namibians. We acknowledge that there are ongoing efforts to address the issue of Food Waste in Namibia, but we are looking for new possibilities that can tip over a pivotal domino in a problem chain that can result in exponential benefits.

A prize of N$ 100,000 will be offered to the winning solution and the deadline for submissions is 12 August 2022.
